Movers, Shakers & Rainmakers

Oct 6, 2022

On this week's episode of Movers, Shakers & Rainmakers, our hosts are joined by Marina Torres, an experienced litigator and federal prosecutor with over 30 trials in federal and state courts, as well as a recent candidate for the post of Los Angeles City Attorney. As the daughter of undocumented Mexican immigrants, Marina discusses her journey into the practice of law, from attending Stanford Law School, to working as an associate at Munger in Los Angeles and WilmerHale in Washington, D.C. She chronicles her political appointment with the Department of Homeland Security under President Obama, where she served as part of the policy team leading the design and implementation of the President’s executive actions on immigration. Finally, Marina speaks about the daily call to administer justice as a federal prosecutor, as well her decisions to run for office in an attempt to serve on an even greater scale. Finally, we have a candid conversation about diversity, as our guest offers her insight into ways to better include the Latino community and other underrepresented groups in legal practice. For their moves of the week, David and Zach highlight significant additions by Latham and Covington. As always, be sure to rate, review & subscribe.
